Salivoli – Viareggio – Liguria – Portovenere – Cinque Terre
Route starts from Salivoli harbour.
Breathtaking views embracing the Apuane Alps with their marble quarries as well as the mouth of the river Magra and the Poets’ Gulf. Punta Bianca, Punta Corvo, Tellaro (an ancient fishermen’s cove), Lerici (with its enchanting little harbour), Porto Lotti (a modern marina), Le Grazie (with its old harbour and shipyards, home to the “craftsmen of the sea”), Portovenere (enjoy this place and its position open to the bracing sea air, its tiny harbour and the majestic church dominating the cape), Isola di Palmaria and Isola del Tino (island and lighthouse at the same time, watershed between the Tyrrhenian sea and the sea of Liguria).
The stony continuity of the cliffs at Cinque Terre is broken by five small villages: Rio Maggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza, Monterosso, linked to each other by the “Pathway of Love”, a panoramic path along the gardens and the vineyards gently sloping to the sea. Vernazza is the only landing available.
Salivoli – Viareggio –Isola di Capraia – Corsica – Elba Sett.
Route starts from Salivoli harbour.
Exciting cruise from Viareggio to Isle of Capraia (52 miles) with a stop at Isola di Gorgona, the last penal settlement in Italy. It features XVII century buildings set in scenery beyond imagination. You can enjoy the views also while sailing at less than three miles from the island.
Isle of Capraia
It is the furthest North of all the islands of the Tuscan archipelago. Plenty of coves (Cala Rossa – of natural origin from the collapse of part of a volcanic crater). The historic harbour and the village are within 10 minutes walk from the landing. Vegetation displays stretches of Mediterranean wood and traces of the Spanish dominion are still detectable in the ruins of castles and towers. There is a natural lake situated on a plateau to be reached on foot with views of the entire archipelago.
Capo Corso
Located at 18 miles from the Isle of Capraia, this place is the very land’s end on the northern part of Corsica. Dominated by a cliff called Giraglia, providing a natural buoy for the famous regatta, it can be used as a starting point for a cruise to Saint Florent (15 miles) along the western coast, touching Centuri, crisp white sandy beaches and bays. Sailing southward from the East, we come to the harbour of Macinaggio (5 miles) and the fascinating town of Bastia (10 miles).
Northern Elba
Just 25 miles off the coast of Capraia and Bastia, the island is the largest of the Tuscan Archipelago. The first harbour arriving from the North is Marciana Marina, with its majestic watch tower overlooking the bay, dating back to 1100. The harbour provides a wide range of landings for tourists and it is shadowed by the massive Monte Capanne with the villages of Marciana Alta and Poggio. Sailing east, the coast enlarges and gives place to the gulfs of Procchio and Enfola where bays, beaches, rocks and crystal clear water make a natural holiday picture and a romantic shelter for you to spend the night. Set sail again and you will arrive at Portoferraio, an enormous natural bay dominated by the solid profile of Fortezza Medicea overlooking the town and by the ruins of a Roman villa, the very first settlement in the area. In Portoferraio you’ll find two private fully-equipped marinas and a new marina inside the old town’s harbour: a unique setting.
Elba - Giro della Corsica - Elba
Route starts from Salivoli harbour.
It takes two weeks to sail along this itinerary where, besides discovering one of the two major islands in the northern Tyrrhenian sea, you can play the game of differences and similarities between the islands you are going to visit. Corsica has intense features, its coasts provide plenty of landings in wonderful bays. The landscape is always changing and winds may vary frequently. Sweeter panoramas pervaded by the scent of Mediterranean woods welcome visitors on the Isle of Elba, an incredible mosaic of history and different cultures (Etruscan, Roman, Pisa’s dominion, French and English).
Enjoy the taste of the islands’ typical cuisine, sharing wines of excellent quality and intoxicating aromas for a trip where landscapes are never the same.
Giro dell'Isola d'Elba
Route starts from Salivoli harbour.
Circumnavigate the Isle of Elba and you’ll have the ideal solution for family holidays and for those who want to combine: sailing with scuba diving, trekking, horse riding and mountain biking. If you sail clockwise you will have the six main harbours of the island at your disposal. The first is Cavo (5 miles from Portoferraio), with the village of Rio dell’Elba high uphill, Porto Azzurro (6 miles from Rio Marina), enchanting little port dominated by the famous prison and by the splendid village of Capoliveri (10 minutes from the harbour).
Sail on and you’ll find an incredible sequence of tiny coves and large bays, among which Golfo Stella and Lacona (6 miles from Porto Azzurro) before you reach the next landing. They offer magnificent inlets where you can experience exciting hours sailing and nights at bay under a starry sky, safe from the northern winds. From here you can reach Marina di Campo (10 miles from Porto Azzurro), a unique harbour on the southern coast of the island, a tourist center with its fashionable attractions. Sail through the marvellous small bay of Fetovaia and go up along the steep rocky coast on the western part of the Isle of Elba. You can go back to Marciana Marina (10 miles from Marina di Campo) and Portoferraio. Don’t miss a stop at the gulfs of Procchio and Enfola for one last swim!
Archipelago Toscano - Elba - Capraia - Argentario Giglio - Giannutri - Montecristo
Take at least one or two weeks to sail this route and discover a crown of jewel-like islands with a common history. You can add a small cruise to the itinerary, close to the islands of Pianosa and Montecristo which do not provide landings as they are considered protected areas. They are worth a glance all the same. Castles on the coast, towers, bays, small villages, fishermen’s ports and all the savours of the sea mixed with the strong tang of Maremma, home to the Italian cowboys spreading to the sandy beaches in front of the archipelago.
Live an old-style life experience, as old as the Etruscans, the people who crowded these places before the Romans arrived. Discover the very soul of Tuscany.
Elba - Corsica Orentale - Nord Sardegna - Elba
Route starts from Salivoli harbour.
Two weeks for two Italian seas to display all their treasures: the sea around the Isle of Elba and the sea of Arcipelago della Maddalena in northern Sardinia. Indulge in all this sailing along the eastern coast of Corsica, rich with beaches at its northern end, fretted coasts and coves southward. This itinerary is the best option offered, but requires special attention and ability to take advantage of navigation times. There are no particular difficulties to face, apart from strong winds that may blow between Sardinia and Corsica through the famed Bocche di Bonifacio
Sail overnight preferably on your way to/from Corsica if you want to enjoy the cruise at its best.
